The big directories cost between $200 and $999 and more per year when you factor in the fees some of them charge for a la carte services like extra photos, special offers, and other services.

A membership in FBC is $199 a year for full listing services.  No a la carte fees.

Nowadays you need a degree in Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Optimization (SEO and SMO) to have any clue what the search engines are looking for.  Google has about 1000 patents on its search parameters.

But in the end, it all boils down to logic.   If someone is looking for a vacation rental in Florida, a directory that is just about Florida vacation rentals and has lots of content about all of Florida will come up high in what is called the organic search results.

FBC is only about Florida.  We don’t cover the planet.  We already have a lot of info about Florida and there will be a lot more as we keep growing.

Private websites are important.  It’s the place you can display and describe all the great stuff about your property while you have the traveler to yourself.  If you want a booking calendar, that’s where it should be.

Websites have gotten expensive to develop though, not that directory listings haven’t also gone through the roof.

Reviews

Reviews have become a big deal because the opinions of others can help us decide.  The problem is that there are dozens of places on the internet to read property reviews and it’s hard to ask guests to take the time to go to work for you.  Plus most folks like to keep their special vacation spot to themselves rather than tell the world.

To get reviews owners have paid guests and given discounts, which certainly isn’t right. Guests have used the threat of a bad review to extort money and free lodging from owners.  The whole thing is a mess.

And how reliable are those reviews anyway?  Does the person writing the review have a clue?  Who knows?  There has to be a better way.

We don’t have an open review section.  Instead we provide space for owners to copy a few reviews of their choosing.

We also provide a professional review service for owners who opt for it.   It’s a combination home inspection report and professional travel review that we review with the owner to address any issues and then post on their listing.  It high grades the properties listed on FBC and provides travelers with a professional review they can rely on.

 

Calendars

The best place for your booking calendar is on your own private website.  It’s easier to keep updated there and checking availability is a great way to get folks to your site, which is the best path to a booking.  Our Website Initiative websites will come with built in reservation calendars.

Listing Process

Signing up is as simple as we can make it and still keep it secure.

Hit the SIGN UP button and register.

Once you register, we will ask you to sign in with your login (email) and password to proceed.

When your property info is entered, we then approve it as long as you are currently licensed.
We personally check every application so we know that every property on FBC is a licensed Florida vacation rental.

Once approved, you’ll be up and running.

Seniority Ranking

Loyalty is important and we reward it.
We sort by # of bedrooms.  A property is ranked in that sorting by the date it became a paid listing.  The sooner you become a paid listing, the higher you are placed in the sorting for your number of bedrooms.

There  is no way to pay more to get higher in the ranking.

If you have more than one property with the same amount of bedrooms, one will be placed in chronological order and the others rotated into the list.  That is fairer for everyone and more productive for a mutli-unit owner to be sprinkled through the listings.

In the end, we are simply doing the fairest listing possible while honoring the loyalty of our longer term members.
